Seeds in Space

Subject(s): Science/Math/Social Studies/Language Arts
 Grade Level: 8
Author(s): Kathleen O'Connor

Synopsis:

The project will investigate methods of growing seeds in space. This includes discovering an efficient way to provide the plant with water, food and a growth chamber. Students will work with a experimental group of seeds that have travelled to space and a control group of seeds that have not travelled to space.

Students will create a growth chamber and develop a watering and feeding process that will maximize growth of plants.

Students will evaluate the success of their design by comparing the control and experimental group.

Driving Question: How can we grow food for astronauts who are traveling long distances in space?
