I know what simultaneous outcomes means. I understand why I enjoy project based learning so much - teaching so many skills at the same time! I'm going back to the standards and extract the key concepts and develop projects around those concepts.

The standards are always the reference point. Key concepts are the focal point for learning through out the PBL.

The project ideas that I am considering will either be an office simulation where my Vocational Business students will complete various office tasks such as: business letters, memorandums, answering phones, filing, payroll, etc.. or have my accounting students complete the accounting cycle (general journal, ledger, trial balance, etc..).

2 good ideas. How might people in the field be tapped to mentor and/or serve on a panel to listen to and give feedback to the students at the end of the PBL experience?

I'm leaning toward writing a project to be used in the English 9 repeaters class. I will need something that involves movement and color that supports high interest such as music, movies, or other media. Perhaps they could produce a short film, dealing with one of the curriculumn focus questions, and put it to music. Students could work in groups with each group working on a different question.

These are some interesting activities. As Laurie stated above in her reflection, go to the standards first, extract the key concepts you want your students to understand by the end of the PBL, and then map how best to get there, incorporating their interests and other ideas.

I am considering doing a project on the idea of the utopia. I think it would be interesting to read about the foundational philosophy of this political movement and how it developed historically through political discourse, literature, and media.

I have particular interest in the design of a project I looked at in the database entitled Wake Up Call: Is the American Dream Over? That utilized a similar lens to the one I wish to utilize with this topic. I may use it as a jumping off point for design.

You're developing an intriguing project using the Salem Witch Trials. Keep up the thoughtful work.

I am going to adapt a project on persuasive techniques. My driving question will be “How do you persuade someone to do something?” I am not sure if this is too vague. I want to keep it open ended, but feel a need for more structure.

It's a good driving question. Perhaps the word "something" is what may be concerning? Perhaps, how do you persuade others to your view? Or, What tools of persuasion can I effectively use with others?
You have a great concept here.

The factors that are important in developing a project are including at most 2-3 standards using real world issues with simultaneous outcomes(I'm not sure what that means). The project should last at least one week. It is important to plan with the end result in mind. Students should be encouraged to collaborate and work in teams . They need to be involved in the planning and have ownership in the project.

Planning with the end in mind is so important. Incorporating student ownership is another key quality.
